Japanese Literature and Japanese Language Major
Courses covering a wide range of research fields, including Japanese literature, Japanese language, Chinese literature, and Japanese language education, are offered, and detailed instruction is given based on cutting-edge research in each specialized field. In order to respond to today's interdisciplinary and cross-disciplinary research environment, the school has set up a liberal and flexible group instruction system, rather than a segmented, vertical organization in which students are attached to individual faculty members according to their specialty.

History of Department of Japanese Literature and Language
In 1970, the Master's Program Department of Japanese Literature and Language was established, followed by the Doctoral Program in 1972 (renamed the Doctoral Preliminary Program and Doctoral Advanced Program respectively from 1984), and this continues to the present day. During this time, while maintaining a solid academic tradition as a traditional Japanese language and literature research program, it has served as a place of learning that reflects the free and innovative spirit of Aoyama Gakuin University, producing many talented individuals as a research program aimed at training highly skilled professionals and advanced research and education professionals.
