Check the curriculum

Please familiarize yourself with the curriculum of your faculty and department at Aoyama Gakuin University and check if there are any subjects, such as specialized courses, seminars, or graduation theses, that may affect your planned year of study abroad. This is especially important for students enrolled in teacher training programs, as the year of study abroad may significantly impact teaching practice and other activities.
It is also important to consider the subjects you can take at your study abroad destination (major subjects, second foreign language subjects, etc.) and compare them with your current course enrollment to determine if you can graduate in four years. Course registration

*Continuous enrollment applies to the first semester of the year you study abroad and the second semester after you return to Japan.

Preparation for credit transfer

● Check whether you would like to apply for credit recognition
● Keep all necessary documents (syllabus, timetable, academic calendar, textbooks, notes, reports, etc.) and take them with you when you return to your home country.

Credit Accreditation

Number of credits
Credits must be recognized up to the maximum allowed credit limit for that academic year. However, in the case of studying abroad over multiple Aoyama Gakuin University, up to 60 credits may be recognized. (This 60 credit limit includes credits earned and recognized at other universities, such as credits already earned at the time of enrollment.)

Required documents
① "Application and Recognition Certificate for Course Credits Earned by Foreign Students" (Draft Recognition)
② Official English academic transcript from your study abroad institution
③ Syllabus of the study abroad destination
④ Timetable, academic calendar
⑤ Textbooks, notebooks, reports, etc.

● Students who have completed their study abroad program can have the credits they earned at their host university recognized as Aoyama Gakuin University at this university after completing the prescribed application procedures.
● You must submit the necessary documents to Academic Affairs Division (Aoyama) / Academic Affairs Division (Sagamihara) by the designated deadline, have an interview with the faculty member in charge of your department/graduate school, and receive approval from the faculty meeting for your credits to be officially recognized.
● The proposed credit transfer will be created based on the lecture content and number of class hours of the courses taken at the study abroad institution. Only courses that can be taken as part of the curriculum of your affiliated faculty/department are eligible for credit transfer. When creating the credit transfer proposal, be sure to refer to the course catalog and lecture content.
● Credits that are approved will be included in the maximum credits you can earn in the academic year in which you applied.
● Credits earned cannot be used for obtaining teaching licenses or other qualifications.

Course registration

● Some second semester courses can only be taken in the first semester. Please refer to the "Class Timetable (PDF version)" in advance to see which courses are eligible.
● After returning to Japan, you will not be able to take more than the maximum credit limit for that academic year.
● Even if a course is eligible for continuing study, if there is a conflict with other courses on the timetable, or if the same course (with the same content) is not offered for some reason, you will not be able to take it.
● Depending on the results of credit transfer and your course status after returning to Japan, you may not be able to graduate in four years.
