DEPARTMENT OF INDUSTRIAL AND SYSTEMS ENGINEERING

SAGAMIHARA CAMPUS

Combining engineering perspectives and social science knowledge,
Aim to develop a system that will revolutionize "management"

MOVIES ?

FEATURES ?

  1. Special Course in Industrial Systems Engineering

In this course, each session is paired with a faculty member and a guest speaker, allowing participants to learn about both the faculty member's area of expertise and the guest speaker's practical experience. The guest speakers are mainly graduates of Aoyama Gakuin University who are active as business owners, managers, and young professionals, providing a broad overview of how the subjects studied in the department are useful in their work.

  2. Internationalization Initiatives

The Department of Department of Industraial and Engineering is actively working on internationalization so that students can demonstrate their abilities in an international environment, such as by studying specialized subjects in English, interacting with international students, and conducting overseas training. These efforts provide students with frequent opportunities to communicate in English.

  3. Systematic learning of analytical techniques, modeling techniques, and optimization techniques

Specialized subjects and laboratories are divided into three areas according to field: analysis technology, modeling technology, and optimization technology, and students systematically study each of these fields using cutting-edge IT. This allows students to acquire a full range of knowledge that will become the foundation of organizational management without being biased toward a particular field.

  4. Practical learning through experimental subjects

In the third year, students will take part in modeling experiments, analytical experiments, and optimization experiments. These experiments allow students to put the basic knowledge they have acquired in lecture courses into practical use. Through these experiments, students will learn how to put the knowledge they have learned in the three technical fields to good use.

PICK UP LECTURES ?

Production Management Ⅰ

After gaining an overview of production management in modern industrial manufacturing, students will learn about inventory management, production planning, MRP, JIT production, production scheduling, supply chain management, etc. The aim is to acquire an engineering approach to the various decision-making issues that arise in the course of production management, and to be able to apply these approaches in practice.

Multivariate Analysis I

In order to fully understand multivariate analysis and experience its appeal, this course focuses on theory and practice, and teaches the basics of correlation analysis, regression analysis, and discriminant analysis, which are the essentials of multivariate analysis and are widely used around the world. In addition, students will learn how computer software for multivariate analysis performs calculations.

IE Technology

IE (Industrial Engineering) is the core of management systems engineering. In this class, students will learn about IE in an easy-to-understand manner from the perspectives of history and case studies, motion study, and time study. Students will also learn the role of IE in corporate activities, work methods and analysis with an emphasis on ideas for "improvement," as well as basic knowledge of work hours, with the aim of acquiring "improvement capabilities."

LABORATORIES ?

IE (Industrial Engineering) (Professor Toshiyuki Matsumoto)

Industrial Engineering (IE) is an improvement or problem-solving activity that improves the productivity of work systems that include people, things, money, and information. At the Matsumoto Laboratory, we are researching effective improvement techniques for manufacturing companies aiming for greater efficiency, efficient agricultural management, fun environmental education, and practical management engineering education, based on corporate manufacturing. In these studies, we conduct joint research with manufacturing companies and introduce the developed systems to the field, and also develop garbage sorting games for environmental education and practice them in schools and local governments.

Implementation of mathematical optimization models and their industrial application research (Associate Professor Kazuhiro Kobayashi)

Kobayashi Laboratory conducts research on mathematical engineering. In particular, we focus on developing algorithms for mathematical optimization and implementing them on computers. We are also working to pioneer new fields in mathematical engineering. Mathematical optimization is used in various business situations due to its powerful problem-solving capabilities. To utilize its capabilities on a practical scale, it needs to be implemented as efficient software. From this perspective, our research targets everything from the fundamental theory of mathematical optimization to software implementation that works with practical-scale data.
