Educational and Research Objectives and Three Policies (Department of Industraial and Engineering)
POLICY Educational and research objectives, three policies
Educational and research objectives
The Department of Department of Industraial and Engineering aims to develop talented individuals who can flexibly deal with real-world problems, are internationally minded, and have high communication skills, in other words, high-quality engineers and specialists in the fields of production, management, and business management that support industry and companies. To achieve this, we place emphasis on basic theory and practical application, and actively incorporate exercises, experiments, and training into our classes. In addition, in preparation for the rapid advancement of technology and knowledge, we provide education that enhances the ability to acquire new knowledge and technology in related fields through close cooperative relationships with other departments. Furthermore, we actively promote exchanges with academic institutions and companies both in Japan and overseas.
Diploma Policy (Policy for Graduation Certification and Degree Awarding)
■ Knowledge and skills
They have acquired modeling, analysis, and optimization techniques as specialized skills, and English, mathematics, and information technology as basic knowledge. In other words, they have acquired the foundations of practical problem-solving skills that utilize logical thinking, specialized knowledge, and specialized skills.
■Thinking ability, judgment ability, expressive ability
They have acquired insight and judgment based on logical thinking skills based on basic knowledge, as well as the ability to systematically model and communicate these using mathematical methods.
■ Motivation, interest, and attitude
They have acquired an inquisitive mind that allows them to understand the workings of society and organizations.
They have an interest in difficult problems and aspirations to become engineers who have the management skills to improve the functioning of companies and society, as well as the logical thinking and judgment skills to consider and put into practice the process from system development to actual implementation.
Curriculum Policy (Policy for creating and implementing educational courses)
Through experimental and practical courses, lectures, and internships, we will develop an educational program that cultivates engineers and researchers who possess a strong sense of internationalism and ethics and can contribute to the international community.
In the first year, emphasis is placed on acquiring fundamental skills such as English as a communication tool, computer literacy, mathematics as a foundation for system analysis and model building, and information technology as a foundation for system development.
In the second year, courses in the most important areas of management systems engineering—analysis techniques, modeling techniques, and optimization techniques—are made compulsory, ensuring that students acquire a comprehensive foundation of academic skills.
In the third year, experimental courses in management systems engineering are included to provide students with a more practical foundation of knowledge, while other specialized courses are arranged to achieve Aoyama Gakuin University 's educational goal of "developing engineers who can acquire specialized knowledge and skills in management systems engineering and further develop them to a high degree."
In their fourth year, students conduct their graduation research in their respective laboratories as the culmination of these curriculum courses.
Management systems engineering is broadly divided into three fields: analytical techniques, modeling techniques, and optimization techniques. Students are expected to carefully consider their own career paths and create their own study plans based on their own will and responsibility.
Analytical Technology Field: Learn techniques to cultivate data-driven thinking skills.
Modeling Technology Field: Cultivating an objective understanding of real-world society.
Optimization Technology Field: Develop effective decision-making skills for achieving goals.
In parallel with the above, the curriculum will include exercises, experiments, and practical training courses on analytical techniques, modeling techniques, and optimization techniques. These courses will cultivate the ability to integrate and solve problems through practical application.
In their graduation research, students will receive thorough guidance while recognizing real-world challenges and problems from the perspective of management systems engineering, aiming to become engineers who "acquire specialized knowledge and skills in management systems engineering, develop them to a high level, and demonstrate logical thinking and judgment abilities."
Admission Policy
■ Knowledge and skills
Students have an understanding of foreign languages, mathematics, science, etc., necessary for studying a specialized field, have knowledge equivalent to that of a high school graduate, and are able to communicate in basic English.
■Thinking ability, judgment ability, expressive ability
This is a level equivalent to graduating from high school, and students will be able to consider things from multiple perspectives and logically, and express and communicate their own thoughts in an easily understandable manner.
■ Motivation, interest, and attitude
After understanding the characteristics of the department, students are interested not only in the specialized field of industrial systems engineering but also in a wide range of academic fields, and are motivated and interested in contributing to society by utilizing their specialized knowledge and skills.
