University Emblem and Mascot
We would like to introduce the Aoyama Gakuin University University emblem and mascot.
Origin of the school emblem
Aoyama Gakuin University 's emblem was chosen in 1952 through a public design competition among students.
The shield comes from the phrase "take faith as your shield" (Ephesians 6:16, New Testament) and symbolizes faith. The A and G in the mountain shape represent the initials of Aoyama and Gakuin. Below that is Univ. (University). The shield was conceived by an alumnus Aoyama Gakuin University, who defined its correct shape as "having pointed tips in the center and on both sides like a high peak, curves on the sides resembling full cheeks, and the whole being surrounded by four well-proportioned arcs."

University Mascot
In 1999, the 50th anniversary of the university's founding, a mascot was selected to embody the university's fine traditions and to promote school spirit. The type of mascot was decided to be an "eagle" from among the animals that appear in the Bible, and designs were solicited from the public. In the Bible, an eagle soaring powerfully into the sky is used as an analogy for believers who walk with God's power, and its powerful wings, with their swift movement and indomitable spirit, are cited as something that inspires hope in people. The selection of the mascot design was decided upon by students themselves.
