Social Information Navigation
This is a compulsory seminar class for first-year students to experience what they will be able to do upon graduation. The purpose of this class is to help students clearly visualize their goals, understand the purpose of the various classes that are about to begin, and increase their motivation to learn.

Computing Practice
This is a required seminar class for first-year students to learn "computing" techniques for solving problems using computers through introductory programming experience. Students will learn the basics of programming that can be applied in higher grades and design computer-based problem-solving methods.

Integrated English
In the first year, students take English classes twice a week, focusing on receptive skills (grammar, reading) in the first semester and productive skills (speaking, listening, writing) in the second semester. E-learning is actively used so that students can come into contact with English outside of class.

Introduction to Statistics
This is a required course for first-year students. In today's data-saturated society, knowledge of statistics is extremely useful for organizing that data and obtaining valuable information. One of the distinguishing features of Aoyama Gakuin University is that all students graduate with a foundation in statistics.

Social Mathematics
This course follows on from high school "Mathematics III" and teaches differential and integral calculus. Students will acquire the skills to handle various quantities and their changes, and to solve problems based on mathematical analysis. For students who are not good at math but like it, "Introduction to Social Mathematics" is also available as a preparation for studying this subject.

Introduction to project exercises
This is a project-based class where students learn group work methods step by step by working on an actual project. After learning the basics of business etiquette, idea generation, and graphic problem solving, students will carry out a project and present the results.

Project Exercises
This is a project-based class where students tackle real-world problems. Students will participate in the Kanagawa Industry-Academia Challenge Program, where students tackle specific management issues presented by member companies of the Kanagawa Association of Corporate Executives. Through this class, students will learn the "essence of creative collaboration."

Rational thinking and social behavior
This is a collaborative class created by multiple instructors from the fields of social science, humanities, and information. Students take up a problem in modern society, and instructors with different specialties lecture from their own perspectives. After that, they hold an open discussion to understand the problem from multiple perspectives.

Interdisciplinary research into social phenomena: Introduction to computational social science
Obayashi SeminarIn this laboratory, we will use sociology as a core field to work on unraveling the mysteries (mechanisms) of social phenomena. Specifically, we will develop an attitude to unravel a wide range of social mysteries, such as inequality issues, nursing care issues, cyber cascades and polarization on the Internet, by making full use of knowledge and techniques (experiments, big data analysis, mathematical analysis, simulations, etc.) not only from sociology but also from psychology, economics, political science, and information science.

Considering sustainable development of energy and the environment from an economic perspective
Ishida SeminarConsidering the interrelationships between economic development, energy consumption, and global warming, the students will study the conditions that enable sustainable development from the perspectives of policy and economics. They will raise questions and hold discussions about the findings of the person in charge. Through tours of facilities, they will realize the difficulties of energy supply. It is not easy for students to set their own research topic and complete their graduation research, but it seems to be a good experience for them.

Media informatics and media information processing
Ito SeminarMedia informatics and media information processing are related to various academic fields and contexts, such as tourism, intercultural communication, cognitive science, psychology, social science, medicine, education, and sociology. In this laboratory, we focus in particular on pictograms, an information expression medium, and conduct research on programming, content generation and processing, information design, and more. We pursue research that is unique to School of Social Informatics which deals with interdisciplinary themes.

Using information and communications technology to create new services that help solve problems
Miyaji SeminarWe approach solving social problems from both information and social perspectives. On the information technology side, students will learn web and mobile development using sensing, image processing, augmented reality, and machine learning. On the social side, students will study and research communities, services, and marketing that are closely related to the Internet. Through these efforts, we aim to develop human resources who can plan and create their own services.

Connecting local communities with global social structures
Kagawa SeminarEvery year, we plan events in collaboration with local playgrounds and communities. Some students are in bands or compose music, some have experience playing soccer, some are professional-level kendama players, etc. All students already have some kind of diversity. By skillfully combining these, we aim to create original projects that will please the local people. And through these small activities, we also learn about the issues and mechanisms of global society.

Sports Science, Coaching and Training Science
Endo SeminarEndo Seminar aims to deepen understanding of the activities of athletes and coaches and to obtain knowledge that will help improve athletes' performance. Based on activities that aim to unravel sports interdisciplinary from the perspectives of the fusion of experiential knowledge (physical knowledge) and scientific knowledge, the circulation of theory and practice, problem-solving thinking systems and thinking skills, and planning and creativity of practical content, we value an attitude of pursuing the value of sports from multiple perspectives.
