Japanese Literature
| Subject Name | Features |
| Medieval Japanese Literature (1) A/B | Focusing on kana prose from the mid-Heian period, students will compare multiple texts across the board and analyze person, tense, point of view, etc. The course will be conducted through a mix of lectures by faculty members and exercises based on student presentations. |
| Japanese Dramatic Literature A & B | This course will explore the essence of Noh theatre, how words are brought to life through the bodies of the performers and how they shape the stage space. It will also include a visit to a Noh theatre to watch a live performance. |
| Japanese Poetry A & B | This course focuses on Fujiwara no Kiyosuke, who had a great influence on the poetry world at the end of the Heian period, and provides an annotated reading of his poetry treatise "Ogisho," as well as examining trends in the poetry world at the end of the Heian period. This leads to the fundamental question of what waka poetry is. |
Japanese Language Studies

| Japanese Language (1) A & B | This course will teach students how to conduct grammar research using a digital corpus. This course will enable students to gain the ability to conduct new research independently. The corpus used will be the Balanced Corpus of Modern Japanese created by the National Institute for Japanese Language and Linguistics. |
| Japanese Language (2) (Seminar) A & B | Based on the ideas of cognitive linguistics, we will study various issues in Japanese pragmatics. We will also take into account historical issues and touch upon comparative studies with other languages. The main theme will be issues of Japanese deixis. |
| Teaching Japanese as a Second Language A & B | This project will advance basic research into Japanese synonyms and synonymous expressions, and will investigate the methodology of how to apply this to Japanese language education. This will enable us to identify the theoretical problems surrounding synonyms, and at the same time, to put them into practice as teaching materials. |
