Purpose of installation

The purpose of life science research is to elucidate the complex and precise mechanisms of the life phenomena that living organisms perform, and the results will contribute greatly to improving people's lives and economic development, such as through dramatic advances in medical care and drug discovery, and solving food and environmental problems. Another goal of the Center is to connect the results obtained to the benefit of society as a whole, and we will actively engage in joint research with private companies. By creating future needs and markets, the Center should also be able to become a value creation hub. We also place emphasis on human resource development, placing importance on the ideas of the younger generation, including assistant professors, research assistants, graduate students, and undergraduates.

Research content and prospects

At the Life Science Research Center, we conduct research on a wide scale, including the development of technologies to discover unexplained life phenomena and elucidate their molecular mechanisms, the measurement of molecular dynamics in microorganisms, animal and plant cells, and individuals, the development of chemical probes, and the development of technologies using microscopic image analysis and spectroscopy. Even for technologies based on existing principles, we also focus on methodologies that dramatically improve measurement speed, sensitivity, and accuracy. Furthermore, by incorporating methods based on mathematical analysis and computer simulation into empirical research, we accelerate the elucidation of life phenomena in complex systems. By deeply pursuing such basic research, we aim to become a Life Science Research Center that serves as a knowledge-intensive hub.
