Three Policies
We would like to introduce the educational and research objectives and three policies of Department of Japanese Language and Literature Faculty of Letters, Aoyama Gakuin University College of Literature.
Educational and research objectives
Department of Japanese Language and Literature is based on the study of specialized academic research methods in Japanese literature, Japanese language linguistics, Japanese language education, and classical Chinese literature, and aims to equip students with the ability to think and learn independently, to develop universal personalities with an international and interdisciplinary perspective, and to develop talented people who will be solid members of society.

Diploma Policy (Policy for Graduation Certification and Degree Awarding)
■ Knowledge and skills
This program aims to acquire basic knowledge of Japanese literature, Japanese linguistics, Japanese language education, and classical Chinese literature (Chinese classical literature) in a comprehensive and systematic manner, and to provide an overview of Japanese language, literature, and culture from a broad, specialized and liberal arts perspective.
■Thinking ability, judgment ability, expressive ability
?Be able to understand the significance of comprehensive and systematic knowledge of Japanese literature, Japanese linguistics, Japanese language education, and classical Chinese literature (Chinese literature) in relation to oneself, Japanese society, and human society.
- Acquire information literacy, logical thinking skills, problem-finding and problem-solving skills, and advanced expressive abilities.
■ Motivation, interest, and attitude
A broad perspective that allows for a comprehensive view of Japanese language, literature, and culture, and the ability to identify and solve problems, either by themselves or in collaboration with others, with the desire to actively contribute to society.
Curriculum Policy (Policy for creating and implementing educational courses)
■ Knowledge and skills
By taking specialized departmental subjects, students will acquire knowledge and methods in Japanese literature, Japanese language linguistics, Japanese language education, and classical Chinese literature (Chinese literature). By taking The Aoyama Standard Subjects and Faculty of College of Literature Common Subjects, students will gain a broad education and learn diverse perspectives on world languages, literatures, and cultures.
■Thinking ability, judgment ability, expressive ability
In departmental seminars, students will gather, read, analyze, present and discuss information on specialized themes, honing their literary and linguistic sensibilities while also improving their information literacy, logical thinking, problem-finding and problem-solving skills and expression.
■ Motivation, interest, and attitude
- Cultivate a broad perspective that enables students to comprehensively view Japanese language, literature, and culture.
- Improve your ability to discover and solve problems, either by yourself or in collaboration with others, through gathering, reading, analyzing, presenting and discussing information on specialized topics.
Admission Policy
■ Knowledge and skills
Possesses knowledge equivalent to a high school graduate in Japanese language, foreign language, geography, history, civics, etc.
■Thinking ability, judgment ability, expressive ability
Possess a high level of Japanese comprehension and expression ability to read, analyze, present, and discuss, as well as logical thinking ability to comprehensively grasp information and knowledge.
■ Motivation, interest, and attitude
Be open to diverse cultures and have the desire to work with others and actively contribute to society.
