Educational and research objectives and three policies
Educational and research objectives and three policies
We would like to introduce the educational and research objectives and three policies of Aoyama Gakuin University Graduate School Graduate School of Graduate School of Science and Engineering Fundamental Science Course.
Educational and research objectives
The program focuses on the fields of mathematical science, theoretical physics, astrophysics, and atomic and molecular physics, while also broadening its horizons to new fields such as complex systems. Through research in specialized fields, students will also acquire model-building and problem-solving skills for a variety of problems.
Three Policies for the Master's Program

Diploma Policy (Policy for Completion Certification and Awarding of Degrees)
■碍苍辞飞濒别诲驳别/蝉办颈濒濒蝉
- Possesses the specialized knowledge and research capabilities to independently conduct research in any of the following fields: basic research in basic or applied physics, or the development research of their applied technologies, basic research in basic or applied mathematics, or their applications in a wide range of fields (e.g. actuarial mathematics, finance technology, mathematical statistics, mathematical biology, nonlinear system control technology, etc.).
?Acquire the English skills necessary to present research abroad.
- Possess in-depth knowledge of advanced research and applications.
■Thinking ability, judgment ability, expressive ability
They have the ability to analyze scientific phenomena and think theoretically based on specialized knowledge. In addition, by observing the subject, grasping the problem, training in analysis, and cultivating problem-solving skills, they have the ability to think, make judgments, and express themselves to become engineers and researchers with a broad perspective who can contribute to the development of cutting-edge science and technology.
■ Motivation, interest, and attitude
In addition to the desire to be active globally as members of society, they have acquired the high ethical standards worthy of a master's degree and the humanity to contribute to the development of science and technology. -
Curriculum Policy (Policy for creating and implementing educational courses)
The curriculum will enable students to learn the specialized academic foundations of physics and mathematical sciences, as well as cutting-edge research results, research methods and techniques.
Specifically, students will learn basic and applied physics and applied mathematics problems, including condensed matter physics theory, solid-state physics, superconductivity, astrophysics theory, observational astrophysics, atomic and molecular physics, quantum optics, laser physics, radiation metrology, analysis, nonlinear mathematics, differential equation theory, algebraic systems, geometry, symmetry theory, dynamical systems, chaos theory, probability theory, and mathematical statistics. In addition, students will learn environmental, safety, and ethical perspectives, including science, technology, and society, welfare engineering, environmental science, risk-based safety engineering, intellectual property, and science and technology ethics. Through these, students will gain the specialized knowledge necessary to conduct research independently. In addition, scientific and technical English is a compulsory subject, and students will acquire the English proficiency necessary to present their research abroad.
Through comprehensive research guidance, students will acquire the ability to independently conduct research based on their thinking, judgment, and insight, which will be cultivated through gathering information on their specialized fields, formulating research plans, developing test equipment and analysis software, and carrying out research using these. Students will also acquire the ability to express themselves through numerous opportunities to present their research both at the university and abroad.
Through research activities, students will develop the interest and attitude necessary for society when they enter the world, in areas outside their field of expertise, such as the environment, safety, and ethics, so that they can carry out their research independently. By providing internship opportunities both in Japan and overseas, students will be able to experience a global environment and develop the desire to play an active role on a global stage as members of society.

Admission Policy
■碍苍辞飞濒别诲驳别/蝉办颈濒濒蝉
Students will have an understanding of the foreign languages, mathematics, specialized subjects, etc. necessary for studying a specialized field, have knowledge equivalent to that of a university graduate, and have the basic academic ability to study and research physical sciences or mathematical sciences.
■Thinking ability, judgment ability, expressive ability
At a level equivalent to university graduation, students are able to consider things from multiple perspectives and logically, and express and communicate their own thoughts in an easily understandable manner.
■ Motivation, interest, and attitude
Students who understand the characteristics of the course, have an interest in physics and mathematics, and are motivated and interested in using their specialized knowledge and skills to contribute to society.
Three Policies for the Doctoral Program
-
Diploma Policy (Policy for Completion Certification and Awarding of Degrees)
■碍苍辞飞濒别诲驳别/蝉办颈濒濒蝉
- Possess the research capability to combine broad-based specialized knowledge with original research achievements.
- Have acquired the English skills to present research abroad and exchange information.
■Thinking ability, judgment ability, expressive ability
They have the ability to think, make judgments, and express themselves in a way that is recognized as making them engineers and researchers with a broad perspective who can combine advanced specialized knowledge with the results of their own research and contribute to the development of cutting-edge science and technology.
■ Motivation, interest, and attitude
In addition to the desire to be active globally as members of society, they have acquired the personality and high ethical standards worthy of a doctoral degree, as well as the humanity that can contribute to the development of science and technology. -
Curriculum Policy (Policy for creating and implementing educational courses)
The curriculum is designed to provide students with the ability to develop a wealth of academic knowledge that will serve as the foundation for integrating a wide range of specialized knowledge with their own original research achievements, produce research achievements worthy of a doctoral degree, and provide research guidance that will equip them with the ability to engage in academic discussion.
In the doctoral dissertation writing guidance, students will select cutting-edge research themes and methodologies in the fields of physics or mathematical sciences, and produce original research results. In addition, students will improve their English skills by presenting their research abroad.
In order to cultivate the ability to become independent engineers and researchers who can contribute to the development of cutting-edge science and technology in the future, we provide a research environment where students can actively participate in academic activities both at home and abroad to collect information on the latest science and technology, and social activities aimed at understanding the needs of the industrial world, thereby improving their thinking and judgment. We also provide opportunities for students to conduct research together with master's and undergraduate students, improving their cooperation, expressiveness, and leadership skills.
In order to enable students to carry out original research, we foster through research activities an interest and attitude that will be necessary when they enter society in issues such as the environment, safety, and ethics, outside of their specialization. By providing internship opportunities both in Japan and overseas, we enable students to experience a global environment, conduct research at an international level, and foster a desire to play an active role on a global scale as members of society. -
