Thesis Review Criteria
Doctoral dissertation examination criteria:
Those who wish to apply for a doctoral degree submit a doctoral degree application form to the Doctoral Program Committee through their research supervisor. Doctoral degree application theses are reviewed by the Doctoral Thesis Examination Committee established by the Doctoral Program Committee. The Doctoral Thesis Examination Committee reports the results of the review of the doctoral degree application theses and the final examination (or tests) to the Dean of the Graduate School. Based on the report of the Doctoral Thesis Examination Committee, the Doctoral Program Committee makes a decision on whether to pass or reject the review of the doctoral degree application thesis.
1. Appropriateness of the research topic: The research objectives must be clear and the topic set appropriately.
2. Degree of information gathering: The author must have sufficient knowledge of previous research on the topic, and must have properly gathered the data and historical materials necessary for his/her argument.
3. Appropriateness of research methods: The methods used to achieve the research objectives, including the processing, analysis, and interpretation of data, historical materials, works, and examples, must be appropriate and proactive. There must be ideas and points of view that can stand in opposition to previous research, and these must have a certain degree of persuasiveness.
4. Appropriateness of the argument: The argument, including the overall structure, is consistent, and a clear and original conclusion is presented that corresponds to the initial task.
5. Ability to write a thesis: The entire text must be supported by solid expressiveness, and the format must be neat in terms of abstract, table of contents, chapter structure, citations, notes, illustrations, etc.
6. In addition to satisfying the above criteria, the applicant must be able to demonstrate knowledge (academic value) that will advance research in the relevant academic field. Based on this, the applicant must be recognized as having the ability and academic knowledge to play an active role in the relevant field as an independent researcher in the near future.
