Thesis Review Criteria

[Master's thesis review criteria]

(Master's degree application thesis)
The master's degree application thesis submitted by the degree applicant will be judged as pass or fail by one chief examiner and two sub-examiners. The examination criteria are as follows:
1. Research theme: The research objective is clear, and appropriate tasks have been set to achieve the objective.
2. Information gathering: Gather a comprehensive understanding of previous research on the subject and have sufficient knowledge of it.
The historical materials necessary for the argument have been collected appropriately.
3. Research method: The historical materials and works are appropriately handled and analyzed/interpreted, and there is a new idea based on previous research, which is then developed and discussed in a persuasive manner using the historical materials.
4. Consistency as a thesis: The overall argument of the thesis is clear, and a sufficient conclusion that matches the research objective is presented. In addition, the text is easy to read, and the thesis format (abstract, table of contents, chapters, figures, notes, bibliography) is well-organized.
　
(Results of research on a specific topic)
1. The research topic is clearly defined and appropriate.
2. The collection of historical materials is appropriate for the research topic.
3. It is based on previous research.
4. The argument is clear and logically structured.
5. The Japanese writing is at a level sufficient to persuade the reader.

Doctoral dissertation examination criteria:

Before submitting a doctoral thesis, applicants are required to apply for and pass the doctoral thesis submission qualification screening and preliminary screening. Doctoral thesis submitted by the applicant will be reviewed by a screening committee consisting of one chief examiner and two or more sub-examiners. After the applicant passes the final examination (oral examination) on the thesis, the screening committee submits an "examination report" to the Doctoral Program Committee, which will vote on whether or not to award the degree.

5. The thesis has sufficient academic value to advance research in the relevant academic field, and the applicant is recognized as having the scholarship and ability to be a promising researcher in this field.
