Thesis Review Criteria

[Master's thesis examination criteria]

The master's degree application thesis will be reviewed by the chief examiner and co-examiner, and after presentation and oral examination, the application will be comprehensively evaluated on the following items.
① To acquire in-depth knowledge from a broad perspective and acquire the research skills necessary for a career that requires a high level of expertise in a specialized field.
Possess the necessary advanced capabilities.
② The research topic must be clearly defined and be valid.
③ The paper is based fully on previous research and properly cites necessary materials and literature.
④ The research and analytical methods must be appropriate to the research topic.
⑤ There must be logical consistency in the process of arriving at a conclusion.
⑥ Appropriate consideration must be given to research ethics.

Doctoral dissertation examination criteria:

The doctoral dissertation will be reviewed by a primary and secondary examiner, and after the dissertation presentation and oral examination, it will be comprehensively evaluated based on the following criteria.
① Possessing advanced research capabilities and the underlying academic knowledge necessary to independently conduct research activities as a researcher in one's field of specialization, or to engage in other highly specialized work.
② In addition to the doctoral dissertation, three other papers have been published, and at least one of them is a peer-reviewed paper that meets the following criteria.
(a) Being the lead author
(b-1) In the case of domestic papers, the paper must have been accepted by a research journal of an academic society registered with the Aoyama Gakuin University, or an equivalent academic society or institution. This includes both Japanese and foreign language papers.
(b-2) In the case of overseas papers, the paper must be accepted by a journal listed on Web of Science.
③ Having presented at academic conferences (national conferences or divisional meetings) at least twice.
④ The research topic must possess originality and novelty.
⑤ The logic has a systematic structure.
⑥ The research methodology is appropriate from an academic standpoint, and the researcher has a sufficient understanding and knowledge of previous research.
⑦ The research has a clear position within the research area and possesses academic value.
⑧ Appropriate consideration is given to research ethics.
